Teams Advance to 2nd Round of NEWBL Playoffs
The Green Bay Storm, Manitowoc Bandits, and Menasha Macs all advanced to the second round of the NEWBL Playoffs.
#2 seed Menasha swept the best of three series with #7 seed Little Chute in two games. #3 seed Manitowoc did the same in their series with #6 seed De Pere. #5 seed Green Bay knocked off #4 seed Appleton by taking game three last night and the series 2-1. Manitowoc will square off against Menasha in round two and Green Bay will take on the regular season champion, Sheboygan A's.
The 2nd round begins on Friday night with the following pairings:
#5 Green Bay Storm @ #1 Sheboygan A's
#3 Manitowoc Bandits @ #2 Menasha Macs
The winners of each series will face off in the NEWBL Championship series on August 11th-13th.

NEWBL Playoffs Begin Tonight
The first round of the 2009 NEWBL playoffs start tonight. The NEWBL playoffs consist of 3 rounds, each a best-of-3 series. The first round will be played on August 3rd, 4th, & 5th (if necessary). Round two will be played on August 7th, 8th, & 9th (if necessary). The championship series will be played on August 11th, 12th, & 13th (if necessary). The highest seed in each matchup will always be the home team and host games #1 and #3, with the visiting team hosting game #2. Here are the pairings:
#1 Sheboygan A's - BYE
#7 Little Chute River Bandits @ #2 Menasha Macs
#6 De Pere Riverbandits @ #3 Manitowoc Bandits
#5 Green Bay Storm @ #4 Appleton Legends

Sheboygan Wins Regular Season Championship, 1st Round Bye
The Sheboygan A's clinched the 2009 regular season championship with a 20-4 overall NEWBL record. The championship also earns them a 1st round bye in the NEWBL playoffs which start on Monday. The Menasha Macs followed in second place with 17-7 mark as did last year's champions, the Manitowoc Bandits. The Bandits finished in 3rd place as Menasha held the tiebreaker. Congratulations to all the NEWBL teams for another exciting season!

The 2009 Northeastern WI Baseball League season is well underway!
Almost halfway through the season, the Sheboygan A's are on top of the League standings with a flawless 9-0 record. Last year's defending champions, the Manitowoc Bandits, are 3 1/2 games back in second place, followed by the Appleton Legends in third place. Keep watching the site for updates on the standings throughout the season.
We're also only 9 days away from the NEWBL/SEWBL All-Star Game on July 11th, hosted this year in Burlington, WI by the Southeastern WI Baseball League. The Northeastern League will try to remain perfect against the SE All-Stars as they've won the interleague contest the last 3 meetings.

All-League Team Selected
The Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League has announced the winners of the post-season awards and the All-League Teams.
Earning the 2008 Most Valuable Player award is middle infielder, Grant Berkovitz of the Sheboygan A's. Berkovitz led the NEWBL in doubles (t10), triples (t2), and runs scored (34). He also batted .393 and drove in 17 runs while leading Sheboygan to a second place finish in the NEWBL. Berkovitz's solid defense also helped him win the award.
Fellow Sheboygan teammate and right-handed pitcher, Cody Griebling won the League's 2008 Most Valuable Pitcher award. Griebling was a flawless 4-0 and carried a league-low 0.77 ERA. Griebling gave up just 3 earned runs while striking out 25 batters in 35 innings.
Adam Linsmeyer of the De Pere River Bandits took home 2008 Rookie of the Year honors as the league's top rookie giving De Pere it's second such honor in as many years (Jeff Riddle, 2007 ROY). Linsmeyer, a left-handed pitcher, went 4-1 with a 1.00 ERA. He also struck out 36 batters in 45 innings of work.
