Schmitz throws shutout as Sheboygan A’s defeat Manitowoc Bandits

SHEBOYGAN, WI- Eric Schmitz didn’t allow a single run as the Sheboygan A’s defeated the Manitowoc Bandits 14-0 on Thursday. Schmitz allowed just one hit the entire game.

The A’s took an early lead in the first inning when the Bandits pitcher Jody Harrison walked Mark Wanner with the bases loaded to drive in a run. An error by the Bandits and another walk drew two more runs for the A’s in the first.

The second inning was similar to the first for the A’s. The team scored six runs thanks to a walk by Wanner and Kyle Peteson driving in a run a piece, as well as an error by the Bandits which also resulted in a run.

One bright spot for the Manitowoc Bandits was a single by Harrison in the fourth inning.

Eric Schmitz earned the win for the A’s. He went seven innings, giving up zero runs, one hit, striking out 15 and walking one. Harrison took the loss for the Bandits. He threw two innings, giving up ten runs and two hits.

The A’s had seven hits in the game. Rodney Valdes and Grant Kosanke each collected two hits to lead the team.

Harrison led lead the Bandits with one hit in three at bats.

The win improves the A’s NEWBL standing to 5-2, while the loss drops the Bandits to 0-5.

The Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League is a top-tier, wooden bat, adult semi-professional baseball league located in northeastern Wisconsin. Players in the league are considered amateur status, are not paid and consist mostly of current college baseball players, as well as former college and professional players.
